This year’s 29th Annual MHA Union/conference will be held in Johnson City, TN, on June 20th and 21st. On Friday, June 20 our guest speakers will be presenting at the Langston Center in downtown Johnson City. We will be posting guest speaker bios and pics beginning with guest speakers Bo Petersen and Dr. Tracey Petersen (bios and pics are below). We will be posting a different guest speaker’s bios and pics every few days. We will also be updating the speaker line up as we get closer to the conference.
Bo Petersen has worked as a professional actor in South Africa for more than 40 years, working on stage, TV, and film. She has also made a name for herself as a director.
Bo has a deep commitment to nurturing and developing original South African theatre. She works with undiscovered talent and well-established actors. Her own acting trajectory has been firmly based on innovative and challenging productions.
She has established a successful supplementary career as a dialogue and drama coach for the feature film and the advertising industry, working with, among others, Sidney Poitier, Michael Caine, Ryan Reynolds and William Hurt.
She has toured her play “Pieces of Me,” to South Africa Norway, Sweden, and the USA, where she played to full houses and critical acclaim. Bo’s commitment to the arts is marked by her significant contributions and ongoing dedication to elevating South African theatre globally.
Bo currently resides in the USA where she continues to write, direct, and perform.
Dr. Tracey Petersen leads the Holocaust and the United Nations Outreach Programme, Department of Global Communications, United Nations. Under Dr. Petersen’s leadership, the Programme has developed educational resources and a multi-faceted educational and commemorative programme; highlighted best practice; and supports the UN system in global educational outreach and commemorative activities and its fight against antisemitism and intolerance. Prior to joining the United Nations, Dr. Petersen served as Education Director of the Cape Town Holocaust Centre, South Africa and led the country-wide development and implementation of teacher training and public engagement projects in post-apartheid South Africa. Dr. Petersen holds a PhD in history from the University of the Western Cape, an MPhil in education from the University of Cape Town and is a fellow of the Salzburg Global Seminars.
