The MHA Union/Conference is a 2-day event held each year in June in a different city, usually in Appalachia or the Southeastern states, in places relevant to Melungeon and mixed ancestry history.

What’s our historical connection to this city?
– Charleston was one of the largest entry points for African ancestors of later Melungeon families
– Charleston was home to a large community of Free People of Color
– Charleston connected the Caribbean with the Appalachian frontier
– Migration routes led from coastal South Carolina into the backcountry
– Charleston had merchants and immigrants of Portuguese, Sephardic Jewish, and Mediterranean ancestry
